Just a long float
Trip 8/7/11 This trip was from Heritage Peace River Landing (27 48.456 N 081 47.365 W) just north of Ft Mead to Ft Meade Outdoor Recreation Area(27 44.827 N 081 46.809 W). This is another wilderness trip with almost no houses along the way. This is a very nice section of the Peace River, with plenty of places to swim or relax in the water. The trip is approximately 3.5 to 4 Hours of leisurely paddle time, we figure about 6.5 miles long. Our trip was about 9 hours, but we cleared the only major logjam on the river and had several stops to cool off, snack (Great smoke Mullet), and to grill steak sandwiches for lunch. When we arrived, the weather was already hot and muggy. When we started a little puff of smoke would roll off the camera. I think it was really steam from the humidity and the flash going off. Once we started the weather was not a factor just a great trip and once in the trees it was fine then by the time we made the first stop it was a cool trip the rest of the way down the river. Down the river a ways,(27 47.302 N 081 47.059 W) I did a little side trip about 100 yards back up a stream that flowed into the river, and I must have been the first person to paddle up there in years. It was great. This trip the river had a lot more weed in it than last time, but was easy to navigate, it just added to the beauty. With no logjams now, this is a very nice and easy trip even for beginners. We see no one along the river in this section of the Peace River, although at Ft Meade Outdoor Recreation Area we always see people fishing along the bank. This is a great trip and if you are a paddler, looking for a place to paddle this is a place to look at.
